Biography

ZARAFI, Afiniki Bawa is a Professor of Plant Pathology in the Faculty of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She holds a second class upper division in B. Agric degree (1986), M.Sc. Crop Protection (1993) and Ph.D. Crop protection (2004) all from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She joined the service of Ahmadu Bello University in 1987 and rouse through the ranks to professor in 2010.She teaches various courses in the areas of plant pathology of crop plants and forest trees both at undergraduate and post graduate levels. She was FPT Chairman (2010- 2016), TRM & OFAR Coordinator (2005 -2017) and Head of Department (2012-2016) in ABU. She has supervised and examined several Postgraduate students (Ph.D., M.Sc. & PGD) in ABU and other University as well as external examiner to Post graduate programme of MAUTECH. She has collaborated with several national (e.g LCRI) and international (e.g IITA, ICRISAT) organizations in several research projects which made her well-travelled in the course of her duty.

She is a an active member of professional bodies such ASN, NSPP, MYCOSON where she served as National Treasurer of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP) between 2005 – 2019 and was elected as the vice president in April, 2019. She has served as article reviewer to these bodies and many other publishers.   Her research areas have been on area of plant disease diagnosis and management as well as mycotoxin contamination on agricultural produce.

Her current research is on maximising environmentally friendly pesticides against Plant Pathogens in tropical cropping systems a changing global climate.
