Professor Boniface David Kashina holds a PhD Degree in Plant Virology. He is an employee of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he teaches and supervises both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. His research thrust is in diagnosis and management of plant viruses and viral diseases using conventional and molecular methods.
He has flown the flag of academic achievements during stints of academic activities at the Department of Molecular Biology and Plant Virology, University of Stuttgart, Germany and as a postdoctoral fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science and Fulbright Exchange Fellowship Scheme. He was a recipient of COIMBRA Scholarship for Young African Professors and Researchers at University of Aarhus, Denmark, and Netherlands Fellowship Program for a Course on Integrated Pest Management and Food Security. He had attended many international courses and conferences in India, Japan, Tanzania, Netherlands and South Korea.
At various times, Professor Kashina had served as a member of various Committees at the Departmental, Faculty and University levels, including being the Postgraduate Course Co-ordinator of his Department, Assistant Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, pioneer Leader of the Artemisia Research Programme of the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Zaria, and currently, an Assistant Director (Research).
He is a member of many professional societies, a regular face at scientific conferences, workshops, seminars in addition to being a well published plant virologist as evident by his numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He had served the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection as the North West Coordinator, and is currently, the Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Plant Protection. Prof. Kashina is a fellow of the African Scientific Institute.
