ALABI, Olufunmilola is a Professor of Plant Pathology in the Department of Crop Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She holds a second class upper division in BSc. (Botany) degree (1978), M.Sc. Crop Protection (1982) and Ph.D. Crop protection (1994) all from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She joined the service of Ahmadu Bello University in 1979 as Graduate Assistant and rose through the ranks to Professor in 2004. She teaches various courses in the areas of plant pathology of crop plants at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
She has held several administrative positions, including Undergraduate Coordinator for Crop Protection Department (1985-1989), Coordinator for Monthly Technical Review Meetings (MTRM) for Kaduna State (1996-2001), Postgraduate Coordinator for Crop Protection Department, 2000 – 2004, Head of Crop Protection Department, 2004 to 2008, Coordinator, PROMISO project, November 2008 to 2011, Leader, Legumes and Oilseeds Research Programme of the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. 2009 to 2011, Coordinator, Harnessing Opportunities for Productivity Enhancement (HOPE) Project 2009 to date. Member, Board of Governors of the Agricultural & Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) Ilorin, Kwara State, September, 2009 to 2012. Chairperson, Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee, Bowen University. 2012 – 2013 and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Bowen University, Iwo. 2013. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. 2015 to date.
She has served in numerous University committees and boards in ABU including Standing Committee of Congregation 1993/94, University Committee on Centre for Educational Technology 1993/94, Member committee on Centre for Women Studies, Member, Equipment and Maintenance committee, 2006 to 2010 and Member, University Organised Lecture Committee, 2005 to date. She also played community service roles at national and international levels; these include: Treasurer, Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP) (1993-1995), Business Manager, NSPP (2001-2003), President NSPP (2015 to 2019) and Facilitator of Projects for UNICEF, DFID, UNDP, NIPRANET etc at various times between 1994 to date.
She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP) and Africa Scientific Institute (ASI). She is a member of the American Phytopathological Society (APS), International Society of Plant Protection (ISPP), International Association for Gender and Science and Technology (GASAT), Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN), Nigerian Soybean Association (NSA), National Association of University Women (NAUM), Nigerian Participatory Rural Appraisal Network (NIPRANET) and National Association of Women in Academics (NAWACS).
Her research interests include Plant Disease Epidemiology, Varietal Development for Disease Resistance and Integrated Disease Management, Mycotoxin and Food Safety, Parasitic weeds and of course Gender Issues. She is involved in Project Collaboration on behalf of Institute for Agricultural Research /ABU with International research institutes like IFAD, ICRISAT, IITA and ILRI researching on crops like Cowpea, Groundnut, Sorghum, Millet, Jatropha, Castor, Onion e
She has over 60 Scientific Publications in peer-reviewed, national and international Journals, Edited Proceedings, Scientific Newsletters, Technical Papers and Books; 39 Conference and Workshop Papers and 10 Invited Papers to her credit.
